Community Guidelines
AfriConnect exists to connect the African diaspora in a safe, respectful, and uplifting space. Every member is expected to uphold these principles.
Be respectful
Treat every member with dignity, regardless of country of origin, language, religion, gender, or background.
No hate speech
Content that promotes discrimination, hostility, or violence against any group is strictly prohibited.
No harassment
Do not target, intimidate, or repeatedly contact members who have not consented to communication.
No spam
Unsolicited promotional content, repetitive messages, and off-topic posts will be removed.
Be truthful
Do not impersonate other people, spread deliberate misinformation, or misrepresent yourself.
Protect privacy
Never share another member's personal information without their explicit consent.
Violations may result in content removal, a formal warning, or account suspension depending on severity. Repeat or egregious violations result in permanent bans. To report a violation, use the report button on any post, event, or profile.
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. By registering, you confirm that you meet this requirement and that the information you provide is accurate and complete.
2. Accounts
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. Do not share your password. Notify us immediately at support@africonnect.app if you suspect unauthorised access.
Each person may hold only one account. Creating duplicate accounts to evade a ban or suspension is prohibited and will result in permanent removal.
3. Your content
You retain ownership of content you post on AfriConnect (posts, replies, photos, event listings). By posting, you grant AfriConnect a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to display, reproduce, and distribute that content solely for the purpose of operating the platform.
You represent that you have the necessary rights to share any content you post and that it does not infringe third-party intellectual property, privacy, or other rights.
We may remove any content that violates these terms or our community guidelines without notice.
4. Prohibited conduct
In addition to the community guidelines above, the following are strictly prohibited:
- Attempting to gain unauthorised access to accounts, systems, or data
- Scraping, crawling, or harvesting member data without our written consent
- Using the platform to distribute malware or phishing content
- Circumventing rate limits, security measures, or access controls
- Creating accounts or posting content through automated means (bots) without authorisation
- Using the platform for any unlawful purpose or in violation of applicable laws
5. Moderation
AfriConnect operates a community moderation system. Any member may report content that violates these terms using the in-platform report tool. Reports are reviewed by appointed community moderators (Ambassadors).
Moderators may dismiss a report, issue a warning to the offending user, or remove content. Decisions on account suspension or permanent bans rest with the AfriConnect team. We aim to communicate moderation decisions within 5 business days.
If you believe a moderation decision was made in error, you may appeal by emailing support@africonnect.app within 14 days of the decision.
6. Intellectual property
The AfriConnect name, logo, and all platform design elements are the exclusive property of AfriConnect and may not be reproduced without written permission. Nothing in these terms transfers any intellectual property rights to you.
7. Disclaimers
The platform is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee that the platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of harmful components.
AfriConnect is not responsible for the accuracy, completeness, or legality of any user-generated content. Views expressed by members are their own and do not represent the views of AfriConnect.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, AfriConnect shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of — or inability to use — the platform, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
Our total liability for any claim relating to the platform shall not exceed the greater of €50 or the amount you paid us (if any) in the three months preceding the claim.
9. Termination
You may delete your account at any time from your profile settings. Deletion is processed within 30 days as described in our Privacy Policy.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your account at any time for breach of these terms, with or without prior notice. Upon termination, your right to use the platform ceases immediately.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will give reasonable notice of material changes via an in-app notification. Continued use of AfriConnect after the effective date of updated terms constitutes your acceptance.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Ireland, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Irish courts, except where mandatory consumer protection laws in your country of residence apply.
