After two years here, here's my honest take: Wavertree and Kensington have the most visible African community. Aigburth is quieter but very family-friendly and well-connected. Toxteth has history and is gentrifying fast — cheaper rent but get in now before it rises more. Avoid renting from the agencies on London Road unless you enjoy ghost landlords.

Can confirm Aigburth is excellent for families. The parks are amazing and the schools around there are consistently good or outstanding. Transport links to the centre are solid too.

Great guide. Would add: if you're on a budget, Norris Green has some of the cheapest rents in the city and there is a growing African presence there. Worth considering if you don't mind being further out.
