Navigating the NHS as an African in the North East

Something nobody prepares you for is how overwhelmed North East NHS services are. My GP surgery has a 3-week wait. Has anyone found a reliable walk-in or private GP option in Newcastle or Sunderland? Also does anyone know if there's an African-run pharmacy in the area?

Kweku here — pharmacist in Derby. For urgent but non-emergency needs: NHS 111 is massively underused by the African community. They can book GP urgent appointments and refer you directly. Far quicker than waiting at a walk-in centre.

Also worth knowing: if you are registered at a surgery, ask specifically for a same-day emergency appointment. Many GP surgeries hold these back but don't advertise them. Blessing, Liverpool.
